Greek Bio Projects--by 6th grade

Greek Bio Projects

Please scan the QR Codes and learn about the important people in ancient Greek history. Sixth grade students used Padlet as their presentation tool. This is the first time the students have used this presentation tool after conducting a mini research project.

Energy Transformations Continue

6th grade students using a few materials and an infrared thermometer while making hand warmers during science class. The students recorded temperatures of the materials before, during, and after the lab in both °C & °F. Iron filings were added, which helped to increase the hand warmers temperature 6-8 degrees, on average. The purpose was to transform chemical energy into thermal energy.

Voltaic Cell

6th Grade Science

Since studying energy transformations, we have explored the Law of Conservation, which states that "energy can neither be created nor destroyed - only converted from one form of energy to another"  (J.M.K.C. Donev et al 2018). We explored this law by using magnetized motors, batteries, and wires to use electrical energy to mechanical. Then we used two motors, copper wire, and no batteries to use mechanical energy to electrical energy. Today students used pennies, foil, paper towel dipped in salt water, copper wire and built a Voltaic cell. Students used the Voltaic cell to use chemical energy to electrical energy. Our final step was to use the headphone jack along with the cell and wires to then transform the electrical energy to sound energy. We can't wait to make hand warmers where we will take transform chemical energy to heat energy. Stay tuned!
