Our Year Together And Oh What A School Year It Was!

To all my wonderful student and their families, thank you from the bottom of my heart for the privilege of being your teacher this year.  Now you know why I always walk around snapping photos of you. I hope the images that come across your screen bring a smile to your face. You certainly brought a smile to mine every day this school year. I wish you the best as you venture off to 7th grade. Remember, no matter what I believe in you.

And the Winner is.....

I'm so excited to announce that Lorin is one of 50 winners in the 5th Annual Meemic Foundation Masterpiece Art Contest. Over 2,400 students from GA, WI, MI, and IL entered and Lorin's artwork was selected. Congratulations Lorin! Once the virtual art gallery is launched, I will post the link. Lorin's work will be professionally framed and displayed at Meemic's corporate office in Michigan. Lorin also will receive a special certificate, a Sphero Bolt, and an Amazon Fire Tablet 7.
Due to the current world situation, Sonia Coronado, our local Meemic representative, was not able to come to SWS and surprise us with the announcement. Ms. Coronado called me with the happy news. A Google Meet was held to announce Lorin as the winner to the class.

Because Lorin won, I also won a fabulous prize. A $300 gift card for Office Depot was sent to me to use on my classroom. I can't wait to go shopping!!!!
In true SWS spirit, her classmates cheered and typed comments of congratulations.
A special shoutout to Emma and Aidan who also entered the art contest. Unfortunately, only 50 masterpieces were chosen. This 6th-grade class is filled to the brain with talented artists. I hope more students enter the contest next year.
Congratulations Lorin, Emma, and Aidan!
Never stop trying!

The Riley Farm Rescue

6th gr students went on a live virtual field trip to The Riley Farm Rescue, in CT. Our tour guide, Ms. Drew, led us on a tour of the farm showing & teaching us about the rescued animals & the importance of the farm. Ms. Drew is also a kdg teacher. Our one hour tour included a visit to the various barns where rescued animals are cared for as they heal and thrive in a safe and loving environment.
The students asked high-level questions about the farm, various animal species, and the employees/volunteers. I'm also very proud of the excellent behavior of each and every student. If you have ever participated in a video conference with two dozen people, you know how tricky it can be for everyone. Ms. Drew was very impressed by the quality of questions and how respectful the 6th grade students were during the virtual field trip. Ms. Drew said, "It was my pleasure! I'm so glad everyone enjoyed the virtual field trip. Your students had such wonderful questions and I'm so glad they were engaged. I had such a nice time speaking to you and your class and sharing our animals with you!" To my students---You made your families, teacher, and school proud. I'm blessed beyond words to work in a school with such wonderful families and students.

Virtual Field Trip to Italy

Come join 6th grade and escape to the beautiful sights of Italy. Students went on a virtual field trip and chose a place they think is a must see place. Then students used their writing skills to write a claim, evidence, and reason (CER), which are the key writing skills needed for argumentative writing. So it back, relax, and enjoy the amazing artwork of these very talented students.
