EdScratch

Students are advancing their robotic skills from the last time we used the robots. First, students learned how to program Edison by using bar codes. Now students are actually coding programs with EdScratch, which uses coding blocks. Many of the students caught on quickly and I was so impressed with what they were able to do. Student programmed complete songs, 15 steps sequence events, and added specific directions to turn and spin. I can't wait to see what else my amazing students can do.

1st Trimester Honors

Congratulations to all the 4th-8th grade students who earned a spot on either the High Honor Roll or Honor Roll. To earn High Honors, students need to no more than one B and the rest of the grades as an A in all subjects. Honor Roll students are those who earned only A's and B's on the report card.

I know many of you were very close to achieving either High Honors or Honors. Let's work together as a team with you, your family, and me so you can achieve your goal.

Our New Class Plant

In science class, 6th grade students have been learning about adaptations plants and animals have to protect themselves against predators. A Venus flytrap was delivered to our classroom as part of our new science series. After nominating and voting on a name, the majority ruled, and the winner is...
Voonus Flootus.

Tech Help

One of the many things that 6th grade students can be counted on is their willingness to help others.
The students enjoy working with other grades to teach our fellow SWS students how to use technology.
Whether it is an app, website, or a device, 6th graders are here to help. Recently, the students spent
some time with the 1st grade class in the computer lab. Students taught the 1st graders how to start
the computer, log on to the network, launch the Internet, exit the Internet, log off, and shut down the
computers. We look forward to helping more classes and improving our own technology skills in the future.

What is next for 6th grade? They will continue learning how to block code using Scratch and then step
up their tech game by using EdScratch in order to program Edison Robots. EdScratch uses a combination
of standard block coding that is specifically meant for our new Edison Robots. The goal is to eventually
move into a more sophisticated programming language called EdPy, which is based on the programming
language called Python. As the 6th grade teacher, I personally cannot wait to help the students learn
about the world of robotics.
