6th grade students using a few materials and an infrared thermometer while making hand warmers during science class. The students recorded temperatures of the materials before, during, and after the lab in both °C & °F. Iron filings were added, which helped to increase the hand warmers temperature 6-8 degrees, on average. The purpose was to transform chemical energy into thermal energy.
