Advent Jesse Tree--Research Project
Sixth grade learned about Modern Language Association (MLA) formatting through a collaborative research project. Besides trying to improve our writing skills, students also learned about the significance of the Jesse Tree in our faith. Please scan the QR code to view the slideshow. I completed the first few slides in order to provide various examples on how to approach the project and for students to see what MLA formatting looks like. Learning how to parenthetically cite (in-text citations) and format a Works Cited section took time and practice, but the students are getting the hang of it. Formatting sources as citations is a sixth grade skill that is used throughout a person's education and sometimes in a chosen career. It's important that the students learn how to use digital citizenship skills, such as giving proper credit to authors of borrowed content.
