Advent Jesse Tree--Research Project

Sixth grade learned about Modern Language Association (MLA) formatting through a collaborative research project. Besides trying to improve our writing skills, students also learned about the significance of the Jesse Tree in our faith. Please scan the QR code to view the slideshow. I completed the first few slides in order to provide various examples on how to approach the project and for students to see what MLA formatting looks like. Learning how to parenthetically cite (in-text citations) and format a Works Cited section took time and practice, but the students are getting the hang of it. Formatting sources as citations is a sixth grade skill that is used throughout a person's education and sometimes in a chosen career. It's important that the students learn how to use digital citizenship skills, such as giving proper credit to authors of borrowed content.

Please scan and enjoy! May you too will learn something about the Jesse Tree.

Santa's Secret Shop

You know it's Christmastime at SWS when Santa's Secret Shop is open. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped make this an annual event for the students.

Christmastime in 6th Grade

Here are some photos of activities 6th grade has participated in during this Advent and holiday season.

Enjoy!

6th grade used three colors of paint and blended it to create a background for their nativity scene. Pictures of our finished nativity painting will follow.

5th Grade Social Studies

To review for a chapter test, 5th-grade students played a called Plickers. It's a game where I typed in review questions and they were then projected onto the whiteboard. Students used assigned Plicker cards and held up the card with their answer. Depending if students wanted A, B, C, or D, they turned the card a specific way to show which letter each chose. Then I used a device to scan the cards and the student's answers were recorded. It was a fun way study. Mrs. Zver even joined in on the fun and played a few rounds with us.

St. Nicholas Day

After spending art time using a pattern, and learning how to tie knots and sew stocking. We hung up the stockings with care in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there. On December 6, we celebrated St. Nicholas Day. The students had fun looking through the stockings to see what St. Nicholas left them.

Happy St. Nicholas Day!!!
