Recreation Time

In The Giver, by Lois Lowry, when a Community member turns Twelve, he/she is assigned their job, or as it is called in the novel, your Assignment. Students participated in the Ceremony of Twelves and some were thrilled with their Assignment and some were disappointed and even angry. This was my goal, for the students to understand the theme of freedom of choice. Two students were assigned the Assignment as Recreation Directors and several students were assigned as Recreation Committee Members.
