Enchanted Backpack

What an incredible day at SWS! Two vans filled with over $40k of goodies arrived for our students. I know the students were excited when they saw new recess equipment. Thank you to the volunteers who helped unload the heavy boxes and started to work to unpack them. Our wonderful volunteers included families, Big Shoulders, and the British Consulate. We can't wait to see what is inside of all those boxes!

6th Grade as Teachers

Sixth grade students partnered up with 5th grade to go over tech basics. With a checklist in hand, 6th gr. students guided 5th gr. as they demonstrated various skills, such as logging in and out of accounts, navigating websites, and sending and replying to Gmails. All the students did a fantastic job! I look forward to using the tech with both grades throughout the school year.

Back To School Night

Chromebook Time

Using our Chromebooks for the 1st time this year! Wait until you see what the students will be able to do by the end of the school year.

Save Fred STEM

Students worked in pairs to solve a problem. Their goal was to save Fred without touching him. Students were given specific materials and had to design a solution. A lab report was completed to document the process in words and sketches. It was a fun way to kick off 6th grade science for the school year.

Partner Grade Time

6th grade and 3rd grade are partner grades this year. Since it was such a beautiful day outside, we took some time to meet our new grade friends and play on the playground together. We look forward to getting together several times this year for all sorts of adventures together.

School Supply LIst for 2019-2020

Here is a copy of the SWS student school supply list for this year. Students in 5th grade social studies and students in 6th grade, please be sure to have a mouse pad and earbuds that can be kept in school. Technology is used often and you will need these items when using a Chromebook. Remember 5th-8th grade are 1:1 Chromebooks. This means, our classrooms have a set of devices for you to use. Your new math and science series, as well as the reading and vocabulary series,  has online components that will be used to enhance your learning. SWS students will have access to MobyMax and iReady. My students will also be using technology for sites such as Edpuzzle, Quizlet, Khan Academy, Scratch, and Google Computer Science, just to name a few.
It is very distracting when students are trying to complete work and the student next to you doesn't have earbuds. It is a required school supply, so thank you in advance for having a pair that can be kept in school.

Wishlist

One of my goals this year is to make my classroom more inviting and a place where my kids can't wait to get to. I've been sprucing up the classroom, but my goal is to do more, so I created a wishlist on Amazon. Believe me, I know we all work hard and buying another item for school is a big ask. I figure, posting the wishlist was worth it because it's for my kids. Thank you for taking the time to even look over the list.
